We have hosted a number of “Burial at Sea Services" aboard the "Odyssey" with everyone being very appreciative of the respectful scattering ashes ceremonies. The "Burial at Sea” services takes up to two hours. We have a lovely "Memorial Basket" with an attached wreath that is lined on the bottom with rose pedals provided by the family. After the ashes are delicately and respectfully placed in the "Memorial Basket", a layer of rose pedals is placed on top. Upon reaching the desired ocean location, the family and friends gather on the forward deck area on the bow where, if they wish, the family's preferred memorial services may be conducted. After the memorial services, the "Memorial Basket" containing the ashes and rose pedals is lowered off the starboard bow. Upon reaching the water, the "Memorial Basket" is rotated to allow the rose pedals and ashes to flow in to the sea. The ashes then disappear from sight while the rose pedals continue to float on the surface of the water. The "Odyssey" then circles the area three times as a nautical tradition which also allows the family and friends to express any last thoughts and toss any additional flowers in to the sea. For the convenience of the family, we also record the exact Latitude and Longitude of where the scattering ashes ceremony took place so that in the future, anyone who may wish will be able to return to the same site. The Captain will also sign the appropriate "Scattering of Ashes Permit". If the family prefers to have any background music during the memorial services and burial at sea ceremonies, we have a full stereo system available. For your added convenience, self-catering or full-catering is available. Coffee service is provided.
